City Diplomacy and the Future of Multilateralism
Mayors and local leaders increasingly connect across borders to coordinate their efforts, advocacy, and response to global challenges, such as climate change, inequalities, migration, and the COVID-19 pandemic. As we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, this session will explore the implications of the growing role of cities on the multilateral space.
A panel with an international affairs expert, a city official and a leader from the civil society will be followed by breakout rooms where participants will discuss the links between the local and international governance levels. Invaluable contributions will be provided by:

Ms Anya Margaret Baum - Strategic Advisory to the Social Projects Department of the City of Warsaw
Mr Nicolas Gharbi - Principal Advisor for International Affairs to the Mayor of Madrid
Dr Boštjan Udovič - Associate Professor for Diplomatic Studies at University of Ljubljana
